Why having a lawn is great for the Environment

cropped-pexels-photo-352096There appears to be a drive towards going “fake”, now I can understand if you don’t want to have to  be regularly Cutting your lawn (A key factor in having a well kept, healthy lawn) but did you know that you are actually working against the environment by having one of these installed?

Not only are these “Fake” lawns extremely expensive to lay (if done properly), but the maintenance is not as simple as you may first imagine. I’ll let you all Google that as I’m more interested in fighting the corner for the real thing!

So why is real grass the best?

  • Grass Reduces CO2 Emissions, it also absorbs greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) and converts them into oxygen, which is necessary to sustain human, plant, and animal life. Because grass has a higher leaf density and faster growth rate than native plants, it is much more effective at reducing CO2 emission.
  • Turf  and the soil microbes that exist within them reduce environmental contamination by purifying water and breaking down pollutants as they move through the root zone. Pollutants in the atmosphere can make rainfall so acidic it damages the environment.
  • Maintaining a healthy, thick lawn also benefits the environment. Unlike hard surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, and wood, lawn grass helps clean the air, trap carbon dioxide, reduce erosion from storm water runoff, improve soil, decrease noise pollution, and reduce Global temperatures.

I think the case for real over fake is clear – its great for the environment, helps sustain life and lets face it – you cannot beat the feel of a real lawn.
